Travel - Draw - Paint - Repeat
It’s a pretty simple formula, but it works for me. I observe the world - sometimes distant places and sometimes just the back garden and develop a drawing language to describe the scene. Then I mix in a love of color, pattern and immense scale to create my paintings. Then I do it again.
My paintings are life size in scale – surrounding the viewer with flowers, trees, weeds, plants, and beautiful vistas from around the world. My work also plays with intense color relationships and patterns founds in nature. All of my work begins from observation and drawing and are reinterpreted in the studio.
I love the feeling of being immersed in nature – whether it’s a walk deep in the woods, being overtaken by weeds in the back garden or a beautiful take-your-breath away view in a far-flung location. My paintings attempt to bring that feeling of total immersion, but this time in my version of the world.
