Windowed World
I received the opportunity to create a large scale installation in an empty shop window in downtown New Haven, CT through the Downtown District’s Windowed World Program. My window is located at 137 Orange St.
I decided to use a similar painting as Anticipate and Hopeful - pink background, yellow and white flowers and green and blue leaves - but on a larger scale at 6ft x 9ft.
But to add interest to the work I tried to create 3d elements from the painting (leaves and branches) to fill in the space between the backdrop and the window. I use construction paper, floral wire and masking tape to make many leaves in green and blue. I attached them to actually tree branches that I painted brown and black. I also created a base on brown grocery bags to be the ground that was one of my more interesting experiments.
Then it all had to come together within the window itself.
