Flowers as Symbols

Early last month I began painting the work above - Peace Lily & Palms - inspired by their utility in the home in this dry time of year as humidifiers. But events in the world lately have brought the symbolism of flowers to the forefront. Peace Lilies symbolize peace, new beginnings, healing and are often gifted in sympathy.
Meanwhile, sunflowers seen below in Sunflowers and Sunshine & Sunflowers have come flooding to our screens as symbols of support and solidarity with the people of Ukraine. To those ends, the painting on the left is part of a fundraiser "Art for Peace" where 100% of the proceeds go to humanitarian aid.
